Disasters

Check out this guide from building community WORKSHOP that explains your rights as a renter after a disaster.

Building and Strengthening Tenant Action (BASTA) and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) have a set of Disaster Tools, including repair request forms and videos explaining your rights. They answer questions like:

  • Can my landlord charge me for burst pipes?

  • If I am late on rent, does that mean that the landlord doesn’t have to make repairs?

  • What are my options if my unit has damage? Can I break my lease?

This page from texaslawhelp.org offers more information on tenants’ rights after a disaster.
